Jon Stewart vs House of Republicans......over videogames?

The always lovely Jon Stewart at the Daily Show recently ran (I believe it was recently anyway) a segment on the out of touch people in the House and their whole video game shenanigans. Say what you will on Jon Stewart (not everyone's a fan) but at minimum the clip is worth it JUST because one of the first things he says is SO accurate, plus hearing some of the batshit insane shit these people say in the clips is just.....wow. Check it out.

http://www.xboxic.com/news/1147#more-1147

*sings* In the gheeeeettoooooooo

    <lj:music>"The Dungeonmaster's Guide" album from Dieselboy</lj:music>

Dear me, I have not actually updated in quite some time. Here's the updates for the 0 people who care.

Went to the Dieselboy show downtown Friday night. Had a really good time, but the venue was REALLY crowded, it was WAY hot, and there were a lot of people doing drugs around me and that's just something I'd rather not have around me. So I escorted Marni to the Deadwood around the block (Deadwood is a quieter "townie" bar that the college kids mostly avoid) where the air conditioning was blasting and the waitress didn't care that I kept ordering water! Good times.

Last night I went out with Matt from work. We ended up having a pretty quiet night. Stopped by College St. Billiards, but there were these odd people there, so we finished our beer and headed for Deadwood. We got there and the window couches were open, so we sat there and had a glass of beer. Sadly, the Deadwood couches are very very very comfy and nearly put us to sleep thus ending the evening a tad early.

Which is good because I came home, played some World of Warcraft and watched the latest Doctor Who (which I kinda liked, but felt lacking in general, much as the rest of Season Two)

So long story short, lately I've been going out a lot more (and I do mean a lot). I don't always drink, but after sitting around this house for as long as I did not really going out all that much, I'm definitely enjoying myself.

Work's going well, I suppose. Nothing really bad to report. I find myself willing to work extra a lot more then I used to. Sure, I used to stay a few extra hours when needed, but lately, I've been helping on my days off (not all of them, just on a few rare occasions) which is something I would almost NEVER do before.

I dunno....there are times I just want to work MORE and more because when I go out and stuff it just reminds me of how lonely I really feel most of the time. And at least at work, I'm too busy (or busy enough) to not be bothered with that. I dunno, it's kind of silly now, honestly. I'm 24, I've only had two significant relationships and my life (and one was VERY short and the other......). Some people when they're single kind of "play around" or are more flirty....I've just not got it. I also realized very recently, that as far as people I hang out with regularly, I don't have any single friends. It's almost always hanging out with someone who's WITH someone (even though 9 times out of 10 that person's my friend too, but still....) I always feel like it's me and a bunch of couples going out. 5th Wheel Syndrome and all that.

I don't know, just felt like whining a little there :P

I think I'll be doing a little better when I move (nevermind I get to be a third wheel in my own home, hooray!). Time will tell, eh?

    <lj:music>"Girls" by Tricky</lj:music>

I really hate the fact that I've unknowingly hurt one of my friends and pissed them off severely. I really hope I can patch that up.

I'm really worried about my mom. She's had a hard few weeks. Not that long ago, she was sent home from work for being uber sick (she passed out at one point). On her way home, she collided with a telephone pole because she passed out again. She totalled the van she was driving, but was unharmed (lucky). So she went home and rested for a few days.....and wound up in the hospital on Easter Sunday. She found out that because of what was wrong with her (I don't know the science here, but I believe her potassium levels bottomed out and nearly shut her heart and liver down, I believe) had she not gone in when she had, she would have died within a few days. My mother is not one to seek medical help (she also rarely gets sick) but I'm glad for once she did. She's been easily made sick lately, she got pneumonia and some bad colds too. But she's starting to get back to her normal self. Or was, until the other day she was driving to pick up my sister (and this was not far from where the accident happened) and she heard this loud noise, came up over the hill and saw a major two car collision. She hopped out and dialed 911. She heard someone from one car calling out her name, turned out that was my sister's kindergarten teacher from years back. My mom rushed to her, but nearly tripped over the woman who was thrown from the other car, who was on the ground....she told the teacher to wait a minute, and tried giving CPR to the woman on the ground, but she died there. Mom said she had broken arms, legs, chest, back, everything. When the paramedics arrived they said there was nothing to be done. Also, apparently, during this time, the local sheriff came about and was freaking out and told my mom to give up, the woman was dead. Apparently she pummeled him with every name in the book and told him to shut up or do his job. And also this 20 something year old girl had pulled up during this and was screaming and freaking out. My mom got her calmed down and got her a ride home.....*sigh* So basically my mother took control of the scene until the paramedics got there because the sheriff and other people who ended up being there were just useless. It's really messed her up, seeing that woman die. It's brought back memories of her having to watch her father die for 15 hours a few years back. She's just really messed up right now, and I have NO clue what to do. I hope she'll be ok.

Oh, and the teacher was fine. her leg was crushed in the car, so she ended up with a broken leg, but honestly, she got out real lucky. I didn't hear what caused the accident, so dunno what to say there.

Hmmmm.......anyway, don't know what else to say right now. I'm kind of in a very strange mood. Later.

Yay for being 24!

Celebrated my birthday on both Friday night (nerd party) and Sunday (bar party) Good times.

Working two full time jobs sucks. Especially when you know you need to choose one or the other and you love both.

Please, no "I told you so"'s about this whole two job thing. I don't want to hear it.

Got some flirt in last night (Happy Birthday to me, huh?) Con for the win! It's someone I met before, during Anime Iowa.
First off, working in a game store is love. I brought home a stack of DVD's this weekend, as well as a few games, and an Ace Combat 5 flight stick. I think I've spent a total of maybe $50-$60. Considering that flight stick is worth that much by itself....all is well. Picked up Tekken Tag and Tekken 5 again though. I <3 the Tekken series for some reason. It's not the best to play, but it's perfect for get togethers.

I also picked up a game called Digital Hitz Factory. It's covered in Funkmaster Flex's name and image. It's a music creation game (and comes with a microphone too!) At first I scoffed off this game. But my boss at work was telling me that it's made by the same team who made the first MTV Music Generator on PSone (Hey Rattgirl! *wink*) and I checked and indeed it was. It's also heavily based on that game. I have yet to play with it, but just by looking at it you can tell it's basically a new MTV Music Generator (with a mic!). Some good times could be had by all with this one.

SO yeah, to the surprise of absolutely no one, I love working at a game store. I'm exhausted from this past weekend but that's just because of the sudden OMFG SCHEDULE CHANGE. Again, things should be going better after this.

Dude. Seriously. No. Due to some very last minute schedule changes here is how the past few days went for me.

Friday morning - Wake up from short nap. Supposed to work 9-4 at Game store. End up leaving at 5:30. Rush home for nap. Can't sleep. Get assaulted by phone calls. Go to Kum n Go and work 11pm-7am. It's now Saturday morning. After getting home and getting cleaned up and such, crash, get 4 hour nap, go work 2-9:15 at game store. Come home, shower, go back into Kum n Go for another 11-7. Get home roughly at 7:30ish. Take an hour and a half nap. Go back to game store to work 10-6. Don't end up leaving until 7.

So what's that count up to? Three work shifts with barely a pause between them? Yeah. So naturally I called into Kum n Go tonight. I was supposed to work again (and I'd only get a 3 hour nap before hand) at Kum n Go....but I could barely move so it's like...no. I've woken up now, and I've begun feeling pretty guilty...but I just couldn't do it. I believe my boss at Kum n Go ended up working the shift (again, it's why I feel really guilty) but it had to be done. Another shift would've just killed me. My heart was going crazy, my feet are seriously solid blisters.....bah. It sucks. Now that this crap is done, though, it's going to be fine from here on out. Everything balances out schedule wise. And it's not like I have to do this very long.....

Anyway, I'm going to lie down some more. I still need some more rest.

PS - I fucking hate you. No, not you. *YOU* Ya jerk.

First off, lately my friends page isn't updating when people make new posts. So if I don't comment or respond to something, that is why. Hopefully this rights itself. Because it's pissing me off.

I'll get more into detail about these two points soon, but not now...I'm busy with point #2.

#1 - Saw V for Vendetta tonight. Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant. I loved it. It was also excellent to see Natalie Portman ACT (I've only seen her in Star Wars) Everything about this movie is fantastic. I find myself saying VIVA LA RESISTANCE a lot now. heh.

#2 - Thanks to the EVER wonderful ness151 (Darren), I now have in my possession Final Fantasy XII. I've put a couple hours in. And gotten nowhere. I was having SO MUCH FUN with the battle system, I threw plot continuation to the wind, took my main character Vaan out of town, and slayed newbie beasts for several hours. I'm having a freaking blast. I love this freaking game. It's incredible. Full impressions later. Suffice to say, anyone who's been turned off to the series in the past few years.....get ready to be welcomed back with open arms when the game hits US shores this holiday season.

Off for now.

Waited days for it to be fixed

3) Electricity got shut off. Spent over $400 to fix that.

4) Got Sick on Wednesday.

5) After being sick didn't sleep for days. Small 2 hour naps here and there, but my sleeping problems went through the roof.

6) *FINALLY* got to go out Sunday night. FINALLY! It's been months! And I get so sick, I barely remember it. Had to have Jerryn take me home. I had a really high fever, body aches that made it impossible to even lift glass of water, a sore throat that killed...god...it sucked.

7) Matt cancelled his trip to see me.

8) My car got vandalized. Someone (and it had to be someone inside this apartment building) took this rabbit statue from the hallway and smashed up my windshield with it. They also broke in to the back seat and went through my stuff in there. Not sure if they took anything.

9) Work sucked. I hate 3rd shift. I'm sick of it. Period. I want my fucking life back.

10) My back's been killing me for the past few weeks. I'm not sure what this is about.
